Steve Irvins ironiska eftermäle

Steve Irvin, "Krokodiljägaren", har i dag dödats av en stingrocka när han var ute och simmade.
Trist.
Jag gillade verkligen tv-serien "Krokodiljägaren", den hade stort underhållningsvärde. I varje avsnitt gav sig Steve och hans fru Terri ut i buschen för att leta rätt på något Riktigt, Riktigt Livsfarligt Djur.
När de sedan hittade nåt djur skulle Steve alltid genast fram och peta. Han var som en elvaåring på sin första hajk: lyfta upp wombaten, brotta ned krokodilen, tafsa på strutsen och knyta en skojig rosett av giftormen. Samtidigt som han alltid ropade på sin breda dialekt att detta som han just gjorde var "verry, verry dangerous" och att man alltid gör bäst i att lämna vilda djur i fred.
Som sagt, stort underhållningsvärde.

Det ger i dag ett genuint bisarrt intryck att läsa Steve Irvins frequently asked questions eftersom första frågan helt enkelt lyder "Are you still alive?":

FAQ 1. Are you still alive? Ha ha! I've been killed by crocodiles, venomous snakes, spiders. I've even had a beetle crawl in my ear and kill me once. Nah! I'm here to tell you Steve Irwin lives!

Claims of Steve's death wind up on the news regularly. Whether it's a rattlesnake, toxic beetle, or even falling off a cliff, the main topic of conversation seems to be Steve's mortality. I am here to set the record straight. Since I am with Steve as he dives with sharks, or swings through the trees, I can assure you that STEVE LIVES! Although some of Steve's adventures take him to the brink, he is very skilled at the wildlife work he loves. I am quite confident that Steve will continue to avoid the fangs, claws, and venom of the dangerous animals he wrangles for years to come. Steve has spent the last 30 odd years learning how to stay alive while getting so close to the scary creatures we share our planet with. If Steve ever takes a bite, it's his own fault and mistake, not the animal's. It is vital that we learn to love and respect all wildlife, not just the cute and cuddly ones. So don't worry...Steve is just fine. Right now he's flat out like a lizard drinking!

Så bisarrt att det bara kunde hända i verkligheten.
